As the community mourns, law enforcement continues to investigate Rupnow’s motives and the circumstances leading up to the attack.

The Events of December 16

The shooting occurred at Abundant Life Christian School, a nondenominational institution serving approximately 420 students from prekindergarten through high school. The morning chaos erupted as Rupnow, a student at the school, opened fire using a handgun. Two individuals, including a teacher, lost their lives, and six others sustained injuries.

Rupnow’s attack ended with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities confirmed she was already inside the school when the shooting began, and no security breach occurred.

The police are analyzing Rupnow’s electronic devices, which have been handed over to FBI technicians, to investigate potential warning signs or communications about her plans. “There are always signs of a school shooting before it occurs,” Barnes noted, emphasizing the importance of understanding Rupnow’s online activity.

Investigators are also working to determine how Rupnow obtained the handgun used in the attack. Barnes confirmed they are examining whether the weapon belonged to her parents and whether negligence played a role. “If the parents were aware or negligent, that’s something we’ll have to address with the district attorney’s office,” Barnes said, though early findings suggest no wrongdoing by her family.
