Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who spent years peddling the phony claim that President Donald Trump is a Russian asset and stooge, took to far-left MSNBC to whine about newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.
In an appearance with host Lawrence OโDonnell, the two commiserated about Patel and suggested that he would politicize the agency that was weaponized by now-former President Joe Bidenโs regime against Trump for the majority of Bidenโs term. They also predicted that a future Democratic president would fire Patel upon taking office.
โWith all this going on in the Senate floor, you did something that senators have never done before, to actually go out to the street, in this case outside the FBI headquarters today, to protest the confirmation by the Republican senators of an FBI director who was absolutely unimaginable as being qualified for any form of federal service prior to Donald Trump winning the presidency,โ OโDonnell said of Patel, who is a former federal prosecutor and national security official.
โYes, we stood outside the FBI headquarters to make a last plea against this โ this terrible choice to be FBI director, Kash Patel. Kash Patel is the guy you go to when everybody else says, โNo, I wonโt do it. Itโs too immoral, itโs too unethical, itโs too unlawful.โ Heโs the guy. Thatโs why he was chosen. You rise to the level of your utter sycophancy in the Trump Administration,โ Schiff claimed.
โBut hereโs the thing. Iโve worked with the FBI for decades, ever since I was a federal prosecutor. Theyโre the premier law enforcement agency. Only in Trump world, a world in which you pardon hundreds of people for beating police officers, and then you purge the FBI agents that pursued them, only in that kind of world does a Kash Patel become FBI director,โ he continued, failing to mention that Biden issued a pre-emptive pardon to him on the former presidentโs way out the door.
Biden alsoย commuted the sentenceย of Native American activist Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of fatally shooting two FBI agents execution-style in the head in 1975. Peltier is serving out the remainder of his sentence at home.
โBut thatโs the upside-down, terrible world weโre living in at this moment. And Kash Patel has now been given a 10-year term as FBI director,โ Schiff continued. โI cannot imagine the damage that he can do if heโs given a decade to do it. And so we find ourselves in really uncharted waters. I think youโd have to go back to Herbert Hoover to find another FBI director so intent on using the powers of that position to go after presidentโs enemies.โ
โAnd what weโve also seen here, obviously, is now the politicization of that position, because it is inconceivable, if thereโs a Democratic president sworn in four years from now, that that president wouldnโt immediately fire this FBI director,โ OโDonnell said with a straight face after the FBI pursued Trump for nearly two years before his November victory.
WATCH:
โYes, you know, weโll โ weโll see whether this 10-year term, which was meant to insulate the office and allow an FBI director to go from one administration, continues serving into the next, a norm and more than a norm of practice that was changed when essentially, Chris Wray decided he needed to resign because it meant ultimate conflict with Donald Trump, and he felt that it was in the best service of the FBI not to continue as director,โ Schiff replied.
โLook, when Donald Trump is gone, thereโs a Democratic president. I canโt imagine theyโre going to want to keep on someone as destructive as Kash Patel. But I couldnโt imagine, frankly, that we would be in this place to begin with. So, weโre in uncharted waters,โ he said.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)ย said last weekย that Schiff is frightened by Patelโs position as FBI director because he knows that Patel is aware of potential criminal activity the Democratic senator engaged in when attempting to frame Trump as a Russian agent.
