The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings regarding severe winter weather affecting twelve states, including Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. The conditions are expected to pose significant travel hazards due to the presence of snow, ice, and strong winds.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Thursday night through Saturday morning for regions in East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and other areas. Accumulations of snow and ice are anticipated to range from 4 to 6 inches. In West Virginia, wind chills could plummet to -15°F, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Travel is particularly perilous on bridges and overpasses.
Residents are advised to postpone any non-essential travel, prepare emergency kits, and frequently monitor weather updates. The impacts of the storm may persist until Saturday morning. To mitigate the risk of frostbite or hypothermia, it is crucial to take safety measures, such as dressing in warm layers.
