Ellen Flees U.S. vows to never return After Tr ump Win: ‘Never Coming Back’

Ellen DeGeneres recently announced she is leaving the U.S. permanently, putting her California home on the market and planning to relocate to England full-time. The 66-year-old former talk show host cited President-elect Donald Trump’s second victory as the trigger for her decision, although friends say this move also marks a fresh start for DeGeneres, who has faced significant backlash due to allegations of a toxic work environment on the set of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi already spend much of the year in the Cotswolds, a posh village popular with high-net-worth individuals looking for peace and seclusion. Her Montecito estate, located about 90 minutes from Los Angeles, is expected to be listed privately, bringing an end to her time at the property, which she purchased as a primary residence in 2019. Riskin Partners, a top real estate firm handling the sale, did not respond to a request for comment. A former spokeswoman for DeGeneres confirmed she no longer represents the comedian following the end of Ellen in 2022 and the conclusion of her recent tour.

The liberal icon’s most recent success came in the form of Four Your Approval, a special she produced with Netflix, though it only received a 33% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In the special, she reflected on her time out of the spotlight and expressed regret about not setting better expectations for herself. “I decided to take up gardening,” DeGeneres shared. “I got chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about what’s been going on … Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business … Yeah, the ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.”

She joked, “Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f*** yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind.”

Following her outspoken support of Vice President Kamala Harris, several other A-list celebrities have made similar promises to leave the U.S. for good. Sharon Stone recently mentioned she is considering a permanent move to Italy, and singer Cher said she would take “drastic steps” to avoid returning to the U.S. Actress Minnie Driver, best known for her role in Good Will Hunting, expressed her desire to return to the U.K. after living in Los Angeles for over 30 years. Whoopi Goldberg, currently facing backlash for anti-Trump comments on The View, hinted at a potential move as well, as did rapper and singer Cardi B.
