BREAKING: Kari Lake Lands Position in Trump Administration

President-elect Donald Trump has selected his strong Arizona ally, Kari Lake, to serve as the next director of Voice of America, the U.S. government-funded broadcaster.

“I am excited to announce that Kari Lake will be appointed as our next Director of the Voice of America. She will work closely with the upcoming head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, whom I will announce soon, to ensure that American values of Freedom and Liberty are shared globally, FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the misinformation spread by the Fake News Media,” Trump stated in a Truth Social post on Wednesday evening.

Prior to her political career, Lake worked as a news anchor for KSAZ-TV, a Phoenix-area television station, from 1999 to 2021.

Lake, who ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Arizona in 2022 and for the U.S. Senate in 2024, eagerly accepted the president-elect’s offer in a social media post of her own. “I am honored that President Trump has asked me to lead the Voice of America,” she wrote. “VOA is a crucial global media platform committed to advancing U.S. interests by engaging directly with people around the world and promoting democracy and truth,” the post continued, noting that VOA broadcasts in 48 languages.

“Thank you for placing your trust in me, President Trump. I look forward to leading the Voice of America and canโ€™t wait to get started.”

VOA was established during World War II, and its congressional charter mandates that it provide independent news and information to global audiences.

The broadcaster faced criticism in 2020 for publishing several stories that portrayed the Trump Administration negatively, prompting backlash from the former president, who accused VOA staff of making “nasty comments about our country.”

With Lake’s appointment, President-elect Trump aims to refocus the organization on its original mission.
