Off-duty cop interrupts their date after overhearing this conversation

In a recent Reddit.com thread, one anonymous user recently explained a situation where a man was treating his date inappropriately. He says he attempted to step in, when another stranger who overheard the conversation, decided to jump in instead.Read his post below.

So, possibly one of the coolest things Iโ€™ve ever seen. I mean you know how you hear the โ€œwomen want him, men want to be himโ€ stuff in old movies? Well Iโ€™m a man and by god I wanted to be this guy. Anyway!

Iโ€™m having dinner with my girlfriend at the time, and behind us are a couple on a date. It is not going well. Guy was being rather creepy and making some pretty inappropriate comments, the girl doesnโ€™t look at all comfortable.

The girl finishes her appetizer really quickly, my guess is she wanted to get it over with. Guy proceeds to comment on it and says โ€œwell, least I know you can swallow right?โ€. Loudly.
Girl goes red and tells him that isnโ€™t appropriate, he literally waves his hand in a โ€œshooโ€ type motion and says โ€œoh calm down I was going to find out in a few hours anywayโ€.

I missed her exact reply as she moved to a hushed tone, but it was fairly obvious what was being said โ€“ f*ck no, f*ck off, f*ck this. He responded with โ€œsweetheart I picked you up, I know where you liveโ€. She lost the color in her face and said nothing.

Iโ€™m not one of those โ€œget involvedโ€ type of people, but there is no way Iโ€™m sitting here watching this go down. I get up. I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™m going to do, but Iโ€™m 23, fighting fit and happy to put that motherf*cker through a wall.

I was halfway out of my chair when a hand came down on my shoulder and I look up to this mid-50s but super fit guy who says โ€œEasy.. Iโ€™ve got this one sonโ€. Absolute, total confidence in his voice..

He walks over, grabs a nearby chair, flips it around and sits down with the couple. Then.. he pulls out his police ID and puts it on the table. Now the guy doesnโ€™t have any color in his face.

Cop: โ€œSo, Iโ€™m quietly celebrating my daughters birthday with my family when I distinctly hear you threaten this young lady, would you care to explain yourself?โ€

Guy: โ€œI, ah, well, um, you see..โ€

Cop: โ€œThatโ€™s what I thought. Now see, we take a very dim view of that kind of thing, so right now Iโ€™m deciding if I want to have some of my buddies come pick you up.โ€

Guy: โ€œoh no well thatโ€ฆโ€

Cop: โ€œBut that would disrupt everyoneโ€™s dinner, so how about you hand me your ID, because I wouldnโ€™t want you running off on me, then you go see one of the staff here and settle your bill.. the full bill now, this young lady shouldnโ€™t go hungry on account of your poor behavior. Or we can go with the first option, Iโ€™ll leave it up to you.โ€

Guy: โ€œNo no! Thatโ€™s perfectly fine!โ€ *hands over ID, gets up and walks very quickly in the direction of the counter*

Cop: *while writing down the guys details* โ€œSorry about that miss, I hope Iโ€™m not intruding it just seemed like you could use some help. Oh and donโ€™t worry, if you want to pursue this further Iโ€™ll have some of the boys pick him up on his way home, we can definitely take this further.โ€

Girl: โ€œNo, thank you so much, I wanted to run out 30 minutes ago but he drove me hereโ€.

Cop: *shifts from hard-ass cop to comforting father figure in about half a second* โ€œWell Iโ€™m here with my daughter, sheโ€™s about your age, perhaps youโ€™d like to finish your meal with us? We can take you home afterwards if youโ€™d like, unless youโ€™d prefer to call someone else?โ€

Girl: โ€œOh.. that would be really nice.. thank you so much!โ€

*guy returns, so does the cop*

Guy: โ€œUh so, Iโ€™ve paid the bill, if I could have my ID back..โ€.

Cop: โ€œThere you go.. now I have your details right here so I highly recommend you donโ€™t go near or contact this young lady ever again.โ€

Guy: โ€œYes yes of course, Iโ€™m so sorry!โ€

The guy pretty much fled the restaurant, the girl went and sat with the cop and his family and by the time we left they were still sitting around talking and laughing about random crap.

It was hands down the best way I have ever seen anybody handle any situation, ever.

That cop is my hero.
