A German Shepherd was seen alone and alone in the streets of Detroit, accompanied only by her favorite stuffed bear. It was a devastating sight.
However, this lovely puppy has been recovered and is now safe and sound.
FOX 2 Detroitย reports that residents spotted the dog walking the streets and gave her the nicknameย โNicholasโย although she is a female. The dogโs owner passed away, leaving her homeless, according to the neighbors.
As word got out about the dog, many local organizations banded together to trap her and bring her to safety, including Almost Home Animal Rescue, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, and It Is Pawzable Dog Training.
โEverybody comes together and works as a team, which is so amazing,โย Katrina Weaver, the owner of It Is Pawzable, told FOX 2.

Fortunately, their rescue effort was successful: on May 3, Almost Home No Kill Rescue announced that the dog had been safely captured and was currently under their custody. Because she is a female dog, they changed the name from Nicholas to Nikki.
โOnly good things from here and onto a better life!โย the rescue wrote on Facebook.ย โThanks for all your support. Nikki will now get to be in a loving home!โ
One issue is that Nikki is said to have heartworm, which will need to be treated for four weeks. Nikki is currently taking it easy, walking on a leash, and taking her medication. The rescue will start searching for her new home as soon as she is well.
Nikki is in excellent hands in the interim, and yes, she still has her cherished plush toy with her.ย .
