Reporter Believes Marco Rubio Could Be 2028 GOP Frontrunner

Anti-Trump influencer Tim Miller believes thereโ€™s a new name to watch out for on the 2028 Republican presidential side.

During a podcast interview, Miller argued that Secretary of State Marco Rubio appears to be positioning himself to run for president in 2028.

โ€œAny signs of Vance or Rubio just, you know, preliminarily, possibly, potentially laying the groundwork for 2028?โ€ the host asked Miller.

โ€œI donโ€™t possibly see how you could look at Marco Rubioโ€™s behavior as anything other than an interest in 2028. I mean, he has changed his views to move towards MAGA on basically every relevant foreign policy issue. I mean, he was a huge advocate for people fleeing communism, fleeing Venezuela, fleeing Nicaragua, fleeing Cuba throughout his whole career,โ€ Miller said.

โ€œAnd now the Trump Administration is taking away protected status of those people that fled those countries to come to America, they shut down the Radio Martรญ, which is the free Cuba radio. You know, heโ€™s gone after obviously people on campus for writing op eds opposed to Israel. So, like, across the board, Marco has really, like, aligned himself with MAGA in a very ostentatious way. And I think that thatโ€™s obviously due to his political ambitions, I mean, in addition to wanting to stay in Trumpโ€™s good graces and I guess keep getting appointed to different temporary jobs, interim jobs.โ€ Miller added.

โ€œI think it does help Marco, for sure. I mean, J.D., I think is the obvious one, but Marcoโ€™s case, I think it does obviously helps, but I think it also helps him because, well, he was โ€” you know, he ran for president in 2016 being very different from Donald Trump, from a temperament and policy standpoint. So if he was going to be somebody that wanted to carry the mantle for MAGA, he would need the endorsement and the support and the air cover of Trump and people in Trumpโ€™s family, right?โ€ Miller added.

Miller continued, โ€œBecause I think that thereโ€™s going to be some out there who try to say this is fake, and I think they have a lot of evidence for making the argument that Marcoโ€™s transition is phony and that he might not be able to be trusted. Obviously, Tucker Carlson went hard at Marco when he was on the list for VP, so I โ€” you know, I think itโ€™s very critical for him to have Trumpโ€™s support in particular.โ€

President Donald Trump teased two potential successors โ€” Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio โ€” in a recent interview when asked about the 2028 presidential race.

In a wide-ranging interview aired on NBCโ€™s โ€œMeet the Press,โ€ Trump largely remained tight-lipped on who he preferred. The commander-in-chief also said he is โ€œnot lookingโ€ to seek a third term in office.

โ€œItโ€™s far too early to say that. But you know, I do have a vice president โ€ฆ and JDโ€™s doing a fantastic job. I donโ€™t want to get involved in that. I think heโ€™s a fantastic, brilliant guy. Marco is great. Thereโ€™s a lot of them that are great,โ€ he added. โ€œWe have a lot of good people in this party,โ€ Trump said.

Trump has joked with the concept in the past but has stated that he is not serious about seeking a third term, which would require either repealing the 22nd Amendment or exploiting a succession gap.

โ€œI will say this. So many people want me to do it. I have never had requests so strong as that. But itโ€™s something that, to the best of my knowledge, youโ€™re not allowed to do,โ€ Trump admitted.

โ€œIโ€™ll be an eight-year president. Iโ€™ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,โ€ he added. โ€œThis is not something Iโ€™m looking to do. Iโ€™m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.โ€
