President Donald Trump hit back at the media aboard Air Force One as some reporters attempted to undermine what he has accomplished during the start of his administration, saying, โDemocrats were destroying our country.โ
โI think we have the greatest 100 days in the history of our country for that administration. Weโre planning to do more. Uh, weโve gotten rid of woke. Weโre strengthening up our military. Think of it. Six months ago, we had the worst, uh, numbers in the history of our military for joining up โ joining our military,โ the president said.
โNow we have the best numbers weโve ever had. Just think of that. Itโs not even possible. Inflationโs down. All costs are down. Everything is down other than, as Tristan said, the, uh, thing that you carry the babies around in. But thatโs up 3%. Uh, energyโs down. Gas is down. Nobodyโs ever seen anything โ far ahead of schedule. The Democrats were destroying our country,โ he said.
โSo people that were paying a lot for groceries, theyโre paying a lot less. And, uh, interest rates are even down. You know, we have a very stubborn Fed, but Mitch โ I mean, Fitch and [Inaudible], uh, thatโs, thatโs okay, but interest rates are down, mortgage rates are down. Been pretty amazing. So weโve done, I think โ I โ I donโt think thereโs ever been a better opening 100 days,โ President Trump said.
โWe have a lot of fake polls when they interview Democrats, not Republicans, but, uh, beating more Democrats. I had a pollster that said to me โ A legitimate pollster, John McLaughlin, top person. He said heโs never seen polls that were so fake before where they overweigh the Democrats. And I only bring that up because I think itโs something that should be said,โ the president said before tearing into the media.
โItโs a shame how dishonest the media is. The media is corrupt and theyโre dishonest, and theyโre so bad for our country. Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you,โ he said.
Inย another recent interview, President Trump teased two potential successors โ Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio โ when asked about the 2028 presidential race.
In a wide-ranging interview aired on NBCโs โMeet the Press,โ Trump largely remained tight-lipped on who he preferred. The commander-in-chief also said he is โnot lookingโ to seek a third term in office.
โItโs far too early to say that. But you know, I do have a vice president โฆ and JDโs doing a fantastic job. I donโt want to get involved in that. I think heโs a fantastic, brilliant guy. Marco is great. Thereโs a lot of them that are great,โ he added. โWe have a lot of good people in this party,โ Trump said.
Trump has joked with the concept in the past but has stated that he is not serious about seeking a third term, which would require either repealing the 22nd Amendment or exploiting a succession gap.
โI will say this. So many people want me to do it. I have never had requests so strong as that. But itโs something that, to the best of my knowledge, youโre not allowed to do,โ Trump admitted.
โIโll be an eight-year president. Iโll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,โ he added. โThis is not something Iโm looking to do. Iโm looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.โ
Trump also spoke about the economy, arguing that it has been performing โstrongโ since he took office but cautioned that it would take some time to undo many of former President Joe Bidenโs failures and inactions.
โI think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy because heโs done a terrible job,โ the president quipped. โHe did a terrible job on everything, from his autopen โ which Iโm sure he knew nothing about, some of the things he was supposedly signing.โ
