John and Phyllis Cook are both residents of the Kingston Residence, a senior care facility in Sylvania, Ohio. With their apartments just a floor apart, they found each other and formed a strong connection.
โTo tell you the truth, we fell in love with each other,โ Phyllis, turning 103 this summer, told WNWO. โI know you think that may be a little bit far-fetched for somebody our age, but we fell in love with each other.โ
โWell, we were just compatible in a whole lot of ways, found ourselves enjoying each otherโs company,โ, John, a 100-year-old WWII veteran, said. They were both widows, having each been married twice before.
But their quality time together goes beyond playing Bingo. When asked what their favorite activity to do together was, John replied:
โWell, I probably shouldnโt talk about that.โ
However, Phyllis was more candid:
โHeโs not completely dead sexually and neither am I!โ Phyllis told KHOU 11. But she had her morals to consider: โI just donโt believe in hopping in bed as a Christian unless youโre married.โ
So John agreed to make an honest woman out of her, and they headed to the courthouse for a marriage certificate.
They didnโt realize theyโd leave the courthouse as man and wife.
โIt wasnโt the plan, but we got here and they said we could marry you here,โ John told WNWO.
He couldnโt wait for married life to begin, clearly: โI said โgood, letโs get it over with.โโ
John and Phyllis Cook can look forward to many happy years together. Despite their ages, the couple might have some good genes going for them: Phyllisโ mother lived to be 106.
The coupleโs story proves that youโre never too old for a new romance and a new beginning.
That said, the couple still knows the importance of having your own space, and Phyllis says theyโre each keeping their own apartment. Why rush things?
