Helen Mirren is still held in the highest regard by Liam Neeson, notwithstanding their breakup.
When questioned about their previous relationship, Liam Neeson described Helen Mirren as “a fantastic lady” and actor in a recent interview. “I should be so happy and be proud to have spent three or four years with that person,” Neeson said of the Oscar winner, 77, whom he dated between 1980 and 1985, “she is just out of this world.”
Both stars have always spoken lovingly of their past together, despite the fact that it has been quite some time since they had a romantic relationship.
In a cover story that was published in November 2022, Helen Mirren discussed her relationship with Liam Neeson, saying, “We were not meant to be together in that way, but we loved each other very, very much.”
Mirren said, “Even now, I adore him with all my heart. He is such an incredible human being.”
When the two actors first met on the set of their 1981 film Excalibur, Neeson has said that he was “smitten” with Mirren very immediately after their introduction.
“I remember being on the set and standing with Ciarán Hinds as Helen walked towards us dressed in her full Morgana Le Fey costume and we both went, ‘Oh f—-,’” he said in 2018 on The Graham Norton Show.
After dating and living together for a number of years, Mirren started a relationship with director Taylor Hackford, whom she had met during her audition for his film White Nights in 1985 and finally wed in 1997. The couple had two children together.
Neeson went on to marry Natasha Richardson in 1994, and the couple went on to have two sons: Micheál, who is 27 years old, and Daniel, who is 26 years old.
Richardson passed away in 2009 at the age of 45 as a consequence of severe force injuries sustained as a result of a skiing accident. Since that time, the actor has depended heavily on his work to keep himself occupied over the years.
In 2018, Micheál Neeson, the oldest son of Neeson, decided to commemorate the memory of his late mother by changing his surname from Neeson to Richardson.
According to what Micheál shared in the year 2020, “It was a way to respect her and her side of the family and carry on the name.”
