Ocasio-Cortez Responds To Question About 2028 Presidential Bid

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., did not dismiss the possibility of a 2028 presidential run when asked by Fox News Digital about a viral video that sparked speculation she may be subtly launching a future campaign.

โ€œI think what people should be most concerned about is the fact that Republicans are trying to cut Medicaid right now, and peopleโ€™s healthcare is in danger. Thatโ€™s really what my central focus is,โ€ she claimed when Fox News asked her about a potential presidential bid.

President Donald Trump and Republicans have repeatedly said they arenโ€™t cutting Medicaid or Medicare benefits but are focused on eliminating the waste, fraud, and abuses that Elon Muskโ€™s DOGE team has reportedly found in both systems.

โ€œThis moment isnโ€™t about campaigns, or elections, or about politics. Itโ€™s about making sure people are protected, and weโ€™ve got people that are getting locked up for exercising their First Amendment rights. Weโ€™re getting 2-year-olds that are getting deported into cells in Honduras. Weโ€™re getting people that are about to get kicked off of Medicaid. That, to me, is most important,โ€ Ocasio-Cortez said on Capitol Hill.

For the record, the administration isnโ€™t โ€˜deporting 2-year-olds into cellsโ€™ in any country as part of its sweeping efforts to find and deport the millions of people who crossed illegally into the country under Joe Bidenโ€™s regime.

Ocasio-Cortez has been traveling across the country with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on the โ€œFighting Oligarchyโ€ tourโ€”fueling speculation that she may be laying the groundwork for a presidential bid. Last week, her campaign account posted a video on X that intensified those rumors, featuring the four-term New York City lawmaker and prominent far-left โ€˜Squadโ€™ member, declaring, โ€œWe are one.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m a girl from the Bronx,โ€ Ocasio-Cortez said on a campaign-style stage in Idaho. โ€œTo be welcomed here in this state, all of us together, seeing our common cause, this is what this country is all about.โ€

Earlier this month, FiveThirtyEight founder and noted pollster Nate Silver suggested that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. During a draft-style 2028 preview with FiveThirtyEightโ€™s Galen Druke, Silver selected Ocasio-Cortez as his top pick to head the partyโ€™s presidential ticket.

โ€œI think thereโ€™s a lot of points in her favor at this very moment,โ€ Druke said, adding, โ€œAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez has broad appeal across the Democratic Party.โ€

Social media users have been reposting Ocasio-Cortezโ€™s video across the X platform, Fox noted, using it as evidence of her 2028 presidential ambitions. โ€œGet ready America. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will almost undoubtedly run for president in 2028,โ€ political reporter Eric Daugherty noted in response to the video.

As whispers circulate about Ocasio-Cortezโ€™s bid for higher office, a Siena College poll of New York voters (April 14โ€“16) shows Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumerโ€™s favorability slipping to 39%, while Ocasio-Cortezโ€™s climbs to 47%.

A Siena College poll conducted April 14โ€“16 shows New York votersโ€™ views shifting back home: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumerโ€™s favorability stands at 39%, while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezโ€™s has climbed to 47%.

Schumer drew criticism in March from within his own party for backing the Republican, Trump-endorsed budget bill that prevented a government shutdown, prompting outrage and planned boycotts from congressional Democrats, Fox noted.

That intra-party discontent is mirrored in the pollโ€™s numbers. At the same time, DNC Vice Chair David Hogg and his group, Leaders We Deserve, faced pushback from the DNC this week after investing $20 million to elect younger Democrats in safe House districts.

Ocasio-Cortez raised a staggering $9.6 million in the past three monthsโ€”one of the largest hauls ever for a House member. Her campaign noted that the funds came from 266,000 individual donors, with an average contribution of just $21, Fox added.

โ€œI cannot convey enough how grateful I am to the millions of people supporting us with your time, resources, & energy. Your support has allowed us to rally people together at record scale to organize their communities,โ€ Ocasio-Cortez stated on social media.
