President Donald Trump has nominated Sean Curran, the head of his personal Secret Service security detail, to serve as director of the U.S. Secret Service.
Curran, one of several quick-thinking agents who hurried onstage to defend Trump during an attempted assassination on July 13, was already anticipated to be appointed to the role. On Wednesday, Trump called the appointment of Curran an โhonorโ in a Truth Social post.
โSean is a Great Patriot, who has protected my family over the past few years, and that is why I trust him to lead the Brave Men and Women of the United States Secret Service,โ the president wrote.
โHe is brilliant leader, who is capable of directing and leading operational security plans for some of the most complex Special Security Events in the History of our Country, and the World. He proved his fearless courage when he risked his own life to help save mine from an assassinโs bullet in Butler, Pennsylvania. I have complete and total confidence in Sean to make the United States Secret Service stronger than ever before,โ Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
Trump also announced late on Wednesday that he was nominating Andrew F. Puzder to become the next U.S. ambassador to the European Union.
Puzder is the former CEO of CKE Restaurants, which owns Carlโs Jr. and Hardeeโs. In a post, Trump called the nominee โa successful attorney, businessman, economic commentator, and author.โ
โDuring his 17-year tenure as CEO, Andy led the company out of serious financial difficulty, allowing it to survive, become financially secure, and grow,โ Trump said. โAndy will do an excellent job representing our Nationโs interests in this important region.โ
Trump also named conservative author L. Brent Bozell III to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) in a separate statement on Wednesday. โFew understand the Global Media landscape in print, television, and onlineโ is something Trump claimed Bozell was more knowledgeable about.
โHe and his family have fought for the American principles of Liberty, Freedom, Equality, and Justice for generations, and he will ensure that message is heard by Freedom-loving people around the World. Brent will bring some much needed change to the U.S. Agency for Global Media,โ Trump wrote in a separate Truth Social post.
Bozell has spent decades working in conservative media. In 1987, Bozell, the nephew of William F. Buckley, Jr., founder of the National Review, established the Media Research Center. Bozell wrote a favorable opinion piece for Fox News Digital in the fall regarding Trumpโs prospects against Vice President Kamala Harris.
โTrump has something Harris doesnโt: a winning record, a winning agenda and a winning vision,โ Bozell wrote. โShe avoids her record because itโs not only radioactive politically, but socialism has a rich history of utter failure everywhere.
โAll Donald Trump needs to do is tell his story, remind people what was accomplished during his presidency. State simply he will do it again, both at home where so many are suffering, but also abroad where the world nears a boiling point. Lay out his vision of his city on the hill. โ
Voice of America and other state-funded media outlets are under the control of the United States of America Government (USAGM), which was formerly known as the Broadcasting Board of Governors until 2018. On its website, the United States Association for Governmental Management (USAGM) states that its mission is โto inform, engage, and connect people around the world in support of freedom and democracy.
